In most societies, universities are important for the academic and pedagogical quality of higher education. However, with the increasing development of information and communication technologies (ICT), wider information media and modern training tools, these institutions are confronted with the consequences of online education. This integration will help and facilitate the building of knowledge, whether individually and/or collaboratively through virtual campuses and/or digital universities supported by artificial intelligence (AI). However, the intersection of collaborative learning with AI takes many forms. Indeed, there is an excess of intelligent conditioning to form groups adapted to specific collaborative tasks to adapt the system intelligently to the profile of a learner in a group.
For example, collaborative learning is increasingly used in the classroom as an active way for learners to accumulate knowledge. Teachers act as facilitators of learning, while groups participate as sources of information, motivation and means of mutual help and support. Furthermore, the collaborative approach recognizes the individual and reflective nature of learning and its social embeddedness by linking learning to group interactions.
Through this Research Topic, researchers are encouraged to propose studies of interest in the analysis, design and development of collaborative learning environments based on AI contributions. The research involves the creation of collaborative learning environments by proposing pedagogical scenarios adapted to collaboration, facilitating the emergence of productive interactions, regulating peer-to-peer interactions, and allowing learners to build representations of common problems without ignoring social relations. With regard to the learning aspect of these environments, we argue that such environments can target several types of knowledge, suggest several learning strategies and provide several pedagogical approaches.
